The Many Paths to Detox (and a Splash of Saltwater Wisdom)

The Many Paths to Detox (and a Splash of Saltwater Wisdom)

Let’s be clear: there are countless ways to intoxicate your body, and just as many ways to detox it—not just the usual, familiar ones!

According to reputable medical journals, any process that gets rid of an intoxicant is technically a detox.

Now, keep in mind that the best detox methods are the ones that burn calories without messing with your central nervous system. You don’t want a detox that leaves your nerves frazzled and puts you into a low-key panic (whether you realize it or not). That stress will whip up its own toxic cocktail and re-intoxicate you all over again, especially if it sticks around for a while.

You can detox by fasting or simply cleaning up your diet, sticking to a precise plan long enough for your body to stop working overtime to clean up the usual mess from your regular eating habits. It’s a good idea to ditch hard-to-digest stuff like animal protein and focus on things that are easy on the stomach but still pack plenty of calories and energy. Fruits are your best bet here!

And for a good measure, dunk your face in the ocean a few times a year and let the saltwater give your sinuses a serious rinse.

But if you catch something nasty, you might want to find a different ocean next time!
