Sacred Hemp Milk

Sacred Hemp Milk by Marcus Antebi

I am sure you've already noticed — Hemp is a versatile plant. Hemp Milk is a great smoothie base, and will hold in the refrigerator for 3 days. Hemp seeds for this nutritious superfood beverage are easily obtained at health food markets and online.

Your homemade hemp milk that has not been pasteurized will taste about 9,000,400 times better than store-bought nut and seed milks. The store milks are have a flat dead taste to them because enzymes are 'denatured' during a preservation process.

  • 1/2 cup hulled hemp seeds
  • 3 cups filtered water
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (whole bean, extract or powder)
  • Optional sweetener: 1-2 dates or a Tablespoon of maple syrup
  • You can be inventive and make flavored hemp milk using spices like cardamom or cinnamon.

Instructions: Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend on high for about two minutes — adjust the time based on your blender's power. Touch the blender container outside during blending to make sure you are not overheating the hemp milk from blender friction.

You do not have to strain the milk once done — simply pour and serve from the blender. Hemp will hold well in the refrigerator for 3 days.

Benefits: Hemp seeds contain over 30% good fat. They are a source of essential fatty acids, linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3). Hemp seeds are also a source of vitamin E and minerals, such as phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc.

Final note: You can blend plant powders with your hemp milk to boost the flavor, effect, nutrients, and desirability for children. Examples: raw cacao powder, any superfood green powder, any vegan protein powder, berry powders and so on.
